The Brazilian Tourism Agency (Embratur) has intensified its diplomatic and commercial efforts to promote the Brazilian Amazon as a leading global destination for sustainable tourism. In recent meetings with international tour operators and environmental organizations, the agency highlighted the region's potential for high-impact, low-footprint travel. The strategy aims to attract travelers who prioritize biodiversity and cultural exchange while ensuring the economic benefits reach local forest communities. According to official projections, the focus on nature-based tourism is a central pillar of Brazil's new branding strategy in the foreign market. By working closely with the Ministry of Environment and international ecological certifications, Embratur seeks to standardize sustainability practices across lodges and tour operators in the North region. This alignment is seen as crucial for meeting the demands of the European and North American markets, where travelers are increasingly conscious of their carbon footprint. Furthermore, the agency is leveraging international fairs to showcase the diversity of the Amazon beyond its greenery, including the sophisticated Amazonian gastronomy and the rich traditions of indigenous and riverine populations. The goal is to demystify the region as purely a wilderness destination, presenting it as a complex cultural hub. This shift in positioning is expected to increase the average stay and spending of foreign tourists in the region. Institutional partnerships with multilateral organizations, such as the UN and the World Bank, are also being explored to fund infrastructure improvements that respect the local ecosystem. By integrating conservation with modern hospitality, Embratur hopes to set a global benchmark for regenerative tourism. The initiatives are scheduled to be presented in detail during the next cycle of global tourism summits.
